Rodrigo Bentancur suspended for seven games after racist statement

Tottenham's midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been penalized for making a racist remark about teammate Heung-min Son.

The penalty consists of a seven-match suspension and fines amounting to 1.4 million Swedish kronor.

Rodrigo Bentancur Colmán, born on June 25, 1997, in Nueva Helvecia, is a Uruguayan football player who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He also represents the Uruguayan national football team.

The incident occurred during an interview on a Uruguayan TV program, where the host asked Bentancur if he could arrange a match jersey from Son. The midfielder then answered: "Sonny's? It might as well be his cousin, since they all look alike."

The 27-year-old player was accused of racism and later apologized to Son, who accepted the apology and acknowledged that the statement was unfortunate and a mistake.

The English Football Association (FA) has now announced its decision and described the event as a "serious violation". In addition to the suspension, Bentancur has also been fined approximately 1.4 million kronor.
